STATEMENT OF CONCERN:
Sarah Ruth presented the following to the general delegate session at the NYS PTA 118TH Annual Convention in Saratoga Springs NOVEMBER 15, 2014. Sarah is the Special Education Chair of Western Region PTA.
Hello, my name is Sarah Ruth and I am from Winchester PTA in West Seneca, New York. Today I'd like to talk to you about something called Miracle Mineral Solution or MMS for short. According to the FDA, it is an oral liquid solution. When used as directed it produces an industrial strength bleach used for stripping textiles.
Western Region PTA - Anti- MMS Presentation
November 15, 2014 - Sarah Ruth
The sellers of MMS make claims that it can cure illnesses such as HIV, cancer, hepatitis, Ebola, and even autism. My concern with this product and its claims is that it is being forcefully administered to children on the autism spectrum by their parents who are desperate for a cure.
Customers are instructed to mix the 28% sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice. This mixture produces Chlorine Dioxide or CD. They are then instructed to bathe in, drink, and even administer the solution via enema.
The side effects include nausea, vomiting, severe dehydration as well as damage soft tissue within the body. Parents are instructed not to seek medical help for high fevers as they are considered good for detoxing the body. Likewise, fever induced seizures are also encouraged as parents are told they help to "reset the brain.” Consumers are told that MMS will rid the body of parasites or worms. These so-called parasites may look like worms to the untrained eye, but upon examination by medical experts it has been found that these worms or parasites are actually pieces of intestine shedding the body due to the corrosive nature of the Chlorine Dioxide.
In reaching out to Mark O'Brian PhD, Interim Head of the Biochemistry department at the University at Buffalo, he had this to say:
"I urge anyone even thinking about taking this stuff, to NOT do so. It is dangerous. Sodium Chlorite is toxic and corrosive. When diluted according to the instructions of its proponents, it forms chlorine dioxide, which is equally toxic. It is industrial strength bleach. The reason it makes people vomit, have diarrhea, etc., is because it is poison. It will certainly damage tissue in the body. The claims that it cures AIDS, hepatitis, autism are not supported by any clinical trials and is contrary to what is known about the chemistry of sodium chlorite, chlorine dioxide, or about pathogenesis. The warnings by the FDA and European Health Organizations against this should be heeded."
Currently, the sale of MMS is banned in Canada, the UK, and Australia. Although the FDA has put out numerous warnings, it is NOT banned in the USA. And popular internet sites such as Amazon sell the book that instructs people how to use MMS protocols.
My goal today is to educate as many people and mandated reporters [Licensed professionals such as nurses, doctors, and teachers are required by NYS to report suspected child abuse and are “mandated reporters.”] as possible on this subject. I may not be able to stop willing adults from using this product on themselves, but together, with knowledge and awareness, we can help stop this protocol from being administered to unwilling, non-consenting children on the autism spectrum. What can we do in the meantime? I encourage all of you to visit bancdmms.com and sign the petition asking Amazon to remove the book from their website.
